How TRAS works
Since 1962, TRAS has developed a network of partner
agencies and individuals in India, Nepal, and Tibet that
implement health care and education projects in their
communities.
TRAS's role is to raise funds for, and distribute funds to,
its partner organizations overseas, while its Himalayan partners
implement the projects themselves.
Project proposals come directly from partner organizations in the field to
TRAS' board of directors. The board determines whether TRAS will support
the project on the basis of three factors:
The project objectives' correspondence to TRAS' mission
TRAS' financial capacity to support the project at that time
Managerial and operational capacity of the partner organization
submitting the project proposal
TRAS raises funds for its partners through individual donations
and through fundraising events which raise awareness about the plight of
Himalayan children and youth and the need for their continued support
from Canadians. TRAS organizes regular education campaigns and cultural
events that bring together Canadians and members of the Tibetan and other
Himalayan communities in Canada.
TRAS has no overseas staff and does not send volunteers
abroad.
