Frequently asked questions about sponsorship
Q. What can I expect from my relationship with my sponsored child?
The extent to which you communicate or develop a relationship with your sponsored child depends entirely on you! Your sponsored child will be only too happy to hear from you, especially as many sponsored children are either orphaned or are boarding at schools far away from their family.
Children send out letters and drawings to their sponsors at least once a year. Sponsors can receive primary and high school report cards of their sponsored children on request.
Q. How long do children remain sponsored through TRAS?
By the age of 18, all sponsored children "graduate" from the program, although they will continue to benefit through our involvement in their community. If a sponsored child's family moves out of the TRAS-supported school, or our goals have been reached and it is agreed that the community has become self-sufficient, the child may stop being sponsored.
Q. How can I send gifts to my sponsored child?
TRAS is happy to facilitate communication between sponsors and their children. We encourage sponsors to send money rather than packages to sponsored children, both because of potential theft and because it's better to send money to be spent locally. We can assist with the electronic and post mailing of letters from Canada to the children abroad.
If you would like to send an email, letter, or additional money to your sponsored child, please contact the TRAS office.
